The glaze samples below should give you a general idea of the
quality and beauty of our work.
These are all classic glazes of the finest color and quality. We
have spent a lifetime perfecting the formulas and firing
techniques.
To preserve our sanity, we do not stock, or even offer, every item
we make in every glaze. Some glazes just seem to work or look
better on certain forms and we use them that way.
Many of the galleries we sell to do not carry all of our glazes. At
Fireborn's own gallery in Pittsburgh, you will find them all. We
have more than 30 glazes.
Glacier Glaze
This is a classic mottled Chinese chun
glaze, characterized by a mottled, glossy
surface of blues-greens and purples. Glacier
is peaceful and practical and has been a
best seller for years. Available on all forms
we make.
Nebula Glaze
Copper Red, chun and black overlap and
create subtle greens and purples swirled in
deep pools. This rich combination is
stunning on bowls, vases, sushi ware and
serving pieces.
Copper Red
Our Copper red is an exceptionally
elegant , classic Chinese glaze that we
use almost exclusively on vases and
sushi ware. We think the Emperor would
be pleased to receive one of our
Copper Red pieces.
Shino Glaze
This is Fireborn's version of a classic
Japanese shino glaze. Shino glazes are
highly variable. Our Shino ranges from a
creamy tan to orange with black or silver
carbon trapped flashes or spots. Many
variables affect the final outcome. The glaze
is part of the artistic process and completes
the pot.
Verdigris
Our Verdigris glaze is a buttery matte that is
a quiet green with dark undertones,
reminiscent of a bronze patina. Silky soft to
the touch, this glaze has subtle variations in
color and texture, making every piece
exciting.
Tambo
"Tambo" is a Japanese word meaning low
vegetation, as in fields or a rice paddy.
The browns, greens and golds remind us of
fields just before the harvest. Used
primarily on sushi ware and bowls, Tambo
is available on select items in the Fireborn
line.
White Crackle
This is a glossy white glaze, with a very
slight hint of blue, that has a great crackled
matrix on the surface. Looks great on sushi
ware and rice bowls and teabowls.
Tenmoku
A classic Japanese glaze ranging from
the glossiest black where thick to a warm
brown where thin. Great on teaware,
bottles and flatware.
Rainforest
Rainforest is an earthy combination of a
rich, warm brown with a fluid overglaze at
the lip that streaks into greens, blues and
golds.
Celadon
A translucent glossy bluish green, our subtle
celadon is another classic Asian glaze. This
glaze becomes a deeper green where it
pools in the throwing lines and other subtle
textures of our forms.
Plum
This iron-saturate metallic glaze with
tiny crystals is a contemporary finish.
Plum pieces complement natural
materials like granite or wood and are
equally at home on a stainless steel work
surface.
