Middle Schoolers After School Program
• Wednesdays 4-6 p.m.
• Funded by an NAP grant through the Brashear Association

This 28 week program begins in early October and runs
throughout most of the academic year. Students participate
in three eight week art classes. Group size is small,
allowing for much individual attention. One of the classes is
a clay course, held at Fireborn Studios, and the other two
classes vary from year to year. Offerings have included fiber,
painting, drawing, composition and design, drama, book
arts, watercolor and more. The offerings for 2005-2006 are
Clay Sculpture, Graphic Design and Painting with Alternative
Media. Between rotations, the students come together as
one large group for special workshops. A final exhibition is
held at the end of each year. Works from all students are
displayed in a local gallery. The venue changes each year.
Check here later for details regarding this year's date and
location.

On January 4, 2006, the students will delve into creative
expression through an Altered Clothing Workshop. Thrift
shop finds, old blue jeans and t-shirts will be turned into
works of art and personal statements.

Students may join the program at any time during the year.
There is a one-time registration fee of $35 for residents of
South Pittsburgh neighborhoods and $100 for residents
from other areas. All materials and instruction are provided.
